Good question! I actually meant to add a note on how GPSTest calculates error and forgot. I just added one now in the "Tips, tricks, and caveats" section. In short, Vincenty's formula is used for horizontal error and is generally considered to be the more appropriate when dealing with GPS and WGS84 and is accurate to within 0.5mm.
